Themes and Inspirations

I have always been fascinated by Victorian architecture as I grew up in an area of London that was dominated by these types of buildings. Something about the materials, the geometry and simplicity of design that I found very pleasing to look at, and as a child I saw them more like sculptures than houses. They expressed something about humankind, a kind of echo of humanity.

So unsurprisingly this filtered down from my subconscious and into my work that initially I did not understand but later came to. These buildings have been and are receptacles of human life, they are imbued with the energy and experience of lives gone by from a distant time and are still soaking up vibrations of existence from those currently occupying them. One peers into a window and has a glimpse of someones’ living space, without knowing them but somehow sensing or imagining something about the owners’ life or state of being..

Being interested in eastern philosophy particularly of ancient vedic wisdom in my work there became a fusion of spiritual thoughts of the soul and reincarnation, the cycle of life and what surfaced was that the house would represent the human body a kind of vehicle within which the soul is seated, making the windows space where on can look inward to the central spiritual essence, the space inside the window. Or the flower could also be a motif for the soul that is ultimately completely different from the material of the building, the body so to speak.

My message being an appeal for people to try to see their spiritual nature that is the essence giving power and consciousness to their body but still not the body itself, for people to appreciate the importance of harmony, oneness and balance and aslo to get an understanding of the transient nature of all things…except the soul.
